Women still disregarded in politics

The role in which women can play in politics is still disregarded in most parliaments across the world. This is one of the findings revealed by Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in the survey conducted on equality in politics. The findings reveal that women occupy fewer seats in parliament than men.

DRC promotes new sexual violence law

As part of women's month, a one day workshop on the promotion of the new sexual violence law in the DRC was held on 31 Monday March 2008 in Kinshasa, under the aegis of the International NGO Network for Development (RIOD). The workshop was organised by RIOD and other female NGO networks to make women aware of their rights, so that they can fight the impunity of those who commit acts of sexual violence.

CODESRIA Workshop on writing for scholarly publishing: Call for applications

The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) is pleased to announce the 2008 edition of its Annual Writing Workshop for Scholarly Publishing. Three sessions of the workshop have been scheduled, one to be held in English, another in French and the third one in Portuguese. The English language edition is planned to take place in Kampala, Uganda, on the campus of Makerere University from 13 – 17 October, 2008. It will bring together, 30 participants from across Africa who research in the English language.
