Large HIV Vaccine Study will not go ahead

The US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) announced on 17 July, that it will not move ahead with the PAVE 100 study, which was intended to test a vaccine with similarities to the failed Merck Ad5-vectored HIV vaccine.

Though women in low-income countries are more likely to be exposed to risk factors like smoking and unsafe sex, just 19 per cent of women in the developing world have been screened - compared to 63 per cent in developed countries.
