Senior Reseacher / Advocacy specialist
Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement an advocacy strategy in line with project objectives
* Undertaking networking and building relationships with various stakeholders including South African government, regional and international oversight bodies
* Analyse primary and secondary research and write reports
* Write and present advocacy briefs to key stakeholders organise workshops with key stakeholders
* Lobby government, regional and international bodies around the prevention of torture
* Ensure quality control on the project activities
* Liaison with the funder of the project, and write project reports
* Evaluating and assessing the impact of the project
* Giving direction to the strategic planning processes within the programme as it relates to the project
Requirements:
* A post graduate degree in the social science, law or related field or relevant qualification
* Good knowledge of the local and international framework and instruments relating to torture and human rights
* At least two years experience in managing and implementing high level advocacy work
* At least three years experience in research, writing and analysis
* Understanding of the human rights and/or traumatic stress sector
* Experience in project management within the development, legal or trauma sector would be an advantage
* Good analytical skills
* Significant computer skills
* Excellent interpersonal, presentation and networking skills
* Ability to work with inter-disciplinary teams
* Be a self starter and be highly motivated
* Willingness to travel in Southern Africa and internationally
* A valid driver's license is a necessity
