Reproductive Rights Alliance

What?

In 1995 approximately 27 organisations representing a broad range of groups and interests came together in abroad alliance out of their common interest in reproductive rights and related matters. The alliance was formed in response to an increasing demand in South Africa for overt, organised support for reproductive health care services. The organisations in the Alliance had a long history of activism for reproductive freedom and rights.

Due to the success and progress made in the past and the fact that the issues around which this broad Alliance was formed continue to prevail, the organisations who have been involved have decided:

  • to continue the work of the aforementioned broad Alliance;
  • to form a structured group which is governed by a constitution.

Membership of the Alliance

Members of the Alliance must be recommended by existing members, or must apply to the Alliance. There is a constitution and all members agree to abide by the constitution. Members currently include Women'sNet, Centre for Applied Legal Studies, IPAS, Health Systems Trust and many more individuals and organisations.
