Editorial Policy for the Women'sNet website

Women'sNet is committed to delivering the highest editorial and ethical standards in the provision of it's programmes and services. We seek to balance our rights to freedom of expression and information with our responsibilities, for example, to empower women and girls to use ICT's strategically and to create a society where women and girls are equal participants and agents of social change.

Women'sNet editorial policy statement is made up of a set of values and standards we have set for ourselves and Women'sNet users and it emphasizes good practice we expect from the creators, makers and contributors of all Women'sNet content. This is whether contributions are made by Women'sNet itself or by an Independent organization or individual working for Women'sNet.

The Women'sNet website was set-up to provide an accessible space for women and girls to disseminate news, articles, commentary, digital photos, network with each other and other organizations and it's a vital space of progressive gender responsive content. Currently, moderating and editing of all online content is solely Women'sNet's responsibility and requires regular administration of the website to check for newly uploaded content awaiting approval to publish.

The WomensNet website is a vital space of progressive gender responsive content where users access articles, events, commentary, audio materials, digital stories and announcements. Users can also contribute via email to our staff, submitting blogs or posting content on our forums.

We have consented on the following guidelines to help us decide what postings are appropriate and what are not. We believe that these guidelines will help to make the moderating process a clearer one for content contributors.

We especially encourage individuals to publish:

- Well researched, timely articles
- Eyewitness accounts of progressive actions and demonstrations
- Media analysis
- Investigative reports exposing injustice, with a specific
- Stories on events affecting underrepresented groups
- Media produced from within underrepresented groups, particularly women and girls
- Stories on people or projects working towards social and economic justice
- Original, underreported stories of local, regional, national, or global importance.

When using Women'sNet website, we discourage individuals to:

- Spam post; i.e., post deliberately designed to disrupt basic ability of the Women'sNet website to function. These are posts that are deemed to be devoid of content or analysis and appear to be published with the sole purpose of disruption.

- Post content which is obviously incorrect or misleading. This includes attempts to spread dis-information or to impersonate another individual.

- Posts that contain generalized and negative assertions about any gender, race, nation, class, ethnic group, etc.
- Posts that advocate the mass physical elimination of a specific gender, race, nation, creed, class, ethnic group, etc, or that link to websites that advocate the same.

- Advertising of products or for-profit services.
- Pornography, any materials depicting sexually explicit satire.

Within the above guidelines, we welcome posts that disagree with the opinions held by the editors of this website.
