The Management Accounting for Non Governmental Organisations is conducting a three-day course on Strategic Financial Management for NGOs: Managing for Financial Sustainability.

The purpose of the course is to build the capacity of NGO staff to manage the financial sustainability of their organisations. The course picks up on the more advanced aspects of financial management for NGOs, to further develop the skills and confidence of NGO staff to manage the strategic aspects of finance.

Siyakhula Trust is a NGO whose mission is to assist community leaders, NGOs and projects to the benefit of the communities they serve, is conducting a five-day course on Community Facilitation Programme.

The Durban University of Technology and Art for Humanity is hosting a three-day international conference on Art and Social Justice or ‘The Art of Social Justice’ .

With support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA), and the Ellis Trust, the International Centre for Information Technology and Development is convening this international conference on the theme ‘ICT for Development - Contributions of the South’.

The conference will bring together a mix of practitioners and academics working in the area of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for sustainable development to explore Africa's contribution to the global ICT for development discourse and efforts.

The Management Accounting for Non Governmental Organisations (MANGO), an organisation that helps aid agencies, NGOs and non-profits to work more effectively, is conducting a course on Practical Financial Management for NGOs - Getting the Basics Right.

This five-day course provides a practical introduction to financial management for managers and finance officers of small to medium sized NGOs. It covers the ‘building blocks’ of financial management: keeping accounts, financial planning, internal control and financial monitoring.

These two fields should be allies, since so many of the world’s women live in ex-colonized and/or neocolonized societies, and at least half of the world’s citizens living in such societies are women. Yet these two fields of research find it challenging to integrate each other’s concerns. One important reason for this challenge is that they all too often focus on different kinds of social relations, different kinds of sciences, and imagine different kinds of agents of progressive social transformation.

Purpose

Improving the state of the world requires catalysing global cooperation to address pressing challenges and future risks. Global cooperation in turn needs stakeholders from business, government, the media, science, religion, the arts and civil society to collaborate as a true community. To this end, the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting has engaged leaders from all walks of life to shape the global agenda at the start of the year for the last four decades.

Rethinking Africa's Growth Strategy

The economic crisis has led to a reassessment of the systems governing global cooperation, financial architecture and policies linked to trade and climate change, and is a wake-up call to speed up implementation of long-discussed reforms. In this complex and evolving landscape, emerging markets, including those from Africa, are among the first to show signs of a recovery and are forecast to increasingly contribute to global growth in the next decade.
