The deputy minister, accompanied by the Premier Hazel Jenkins, told the media that the programme was the first to be implemented “and the reason why we start with the Northern Cape is because of high prevalence of drugs and alcohol abuse.
“Government intervention is key, hence we as the national department of the police, together with our counterparts in the province and youth against crime, saw it fit to come together and launch this programme”.
She said the campaign aimed to explore the nature, extent and impact of school-based violence on the right to education.
“In these two days in the province we had public hearings with parents, teachers and pupils.
“The report of the SAHRC and the recommendations made in it provides a basis to understand properly the complexity of the problem as well as offering a comprehensive response to it,” she said.
