"That shows that people are not hiding it. You know, when the person is raped they are reporting it, they are going through the system immediately. Which is very, very good," she said.

Childline's Linda Naidoo meanwhile says there are many sexual crimes against women and children that are not being reported.

She says more needs to be done to make it easier to report these crimes.

"We don't have victim-friendly systems and processes and our periods for investigation are far too long. It prolongs the agony and the pain for the victims and at some point in time, victims decide that they don't want to proceed with this matter."
