Seminar to empower rural women on gender based violence
30 Aug 2011
Department spokesperson Vuyisile Ngesi said the victim empowerment concept is aimed at advocating for a victim-centred approach to criminal justice, with strong emphasis on delivering key services to victims to promote the reduction of victimisation and improved cooperation with the criminal justice process.
"The objective of the seminar is to also empower NGOs, government departments and women in general in the district on gender equality and gender-based violence as well as to address topics such as human trafficking, domestic violence and the impact of HIV and Aids on women and young girls.
"The department has been holding and conducting awareness campaigns in and around farm areas of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality as a means to teach farm worker communities about the prevention of gender based violence as a build up towards the seminar," said Ngesi.
