NGO Portal Goes Live

16 Oct 2008

New site aims to be a home for the South African non-profit sector.

The Southern African NGO Network (Sangonet) yesterday launched NGO Pulse, a new South African portal dedicated to the NGO sector.

The new portal is the successor to the original NGO portal which was launched three years ago.

According to Sangonet's executive director, David Barnard, "in the next few months Sangonet will work closely with NGOs throughout South Africa in building NGO Pulse into a truly online NGO community space and social networking platform".

NGO Pulse editor, Janine Moolman, says that "NGO Pulse provides a gateway to the NGO sector in South Africa, raising the profile of South African NGOs both locally and internationally, and supporting the process of repositioning and strengthening the sector in response to the development challenges facing South Africa."

Moolman says that over the next few months the portal will introduce a range of functions which will allow users to participate in the site. These will include personal blogs, discussion forums and organisational profiles.
