FIDA Tackles Rape, Sexual Abuse
29 Sep 2008
Kaduna State's Chairperson, Mrs Sa'adatu Sambo, said this yesterday in Kaduna, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
She said FIDA had embarked on a monthly sensitisation programme, with focus on schools, markets and other public places, to create awareness on the dangers of sexual abuse and rape.
Sambo expressed concern on the unwillingness of victims to report such cases due to cultural and religious background, which barred them from doing so.
Sambo also identified threat from perpetrators of the acts as a factor in stopping victims from reporting rape cases.
According to her, record had shown that only one out of every 10 rape cases was reported.
More than 20 schools were visited during the sensitisation.
