While the accused was innocent until proven guilty, COPEWM also believed the member should be on precautionary suspension pending the finalisation of this criminal matter.
“What concerns us more is that it is not the first time such happens and senior members of the party are aware of this member’s abusive conduct against women.”
The rights of women to dignity and society free of abuse could not be sacrificed at the altar of political expediency.
“We demand decisive action particularly during women’s month. COPE is riddled with incidences of woman abuse and nothing is being done,” Ndlela said
