The Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) is seeking to appoint a Women’s Rights Information (WRI) Manager to be based in Cape Town

 

Job Description: 

Initiative Overview:
The Women’s Rights Information (WRI) strategic initiative (SI) is one of AWID’s longest standing areas of activity. Over the years it has consistently sourced, commissioned and produced a wide range of women’s rights information from jobs to announcements and analysis in English, Spanish and French, disseminated weekly to currently over 25,000 subscriber through e-newsletters and www.awid.org.

WRI aims to: enhance understanding among women’s rights advocates, organizations and movements of the trends affecting women’s rights globally; increase awareness among women’s rights advocates, organizations and movements of new and emerging women’s rights issues; increase the visibility and recognition by broad women’s movements of the diverse expressions of women’s organizing; increase the coverage of women's rights issues by key information providers of other social movements; and increase understanding of the politics and strategic use of ICTs among women's rights advocates, organizations and movements.

Overview of Position:
The Women’s Rights Information (WRI) Manager is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Communications and Information (DCI) and is responsible for providing leadership for the planning, implementation and evaluation of AWID’s WRI SI, including:

  • Providing strategic leadership and management of the development and implementation of WRI strategies and work plans
  • Managing the WRI staff and contractors, providing direction, managing performance and overseeing work planning to ensure appropriate alignment with AWID’s outcomes
  • Developing, managing and adhering to the budget and other WRI resources, ensuring adherence to financial controls, and financial and organizational policies and procedures
  • Making substantive contributions to all the products and activities of the initiative


Qualifications:

  • 7 – 10 years experience
  • Working in a non-profit development, gender and/or human rights organization (at least 3 years in a leadership capacity with management responsibilities).
  • In project management
  • Producing information, including research and writing, for diverse audiences
  • Working in a multi-cultural team
  • Experience working with women’s organizations based in the Global South and/or CEE/CIS
  • University degree in social sciences, women’s rights, international development or other related field
  • Bilingual: English-French or English-Spanish
  • Able to travel internationally (2-3 weeks a year)
