Trauma Centre for Survivors of Violence and Torture: Social Worker

The Trauma Centre seeks to appoint a Social Worker, based in Woodstock, Cape Town, for its Political Violence and Trauma Response Programmes.

 

Job Description: 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct training workshops for front line workers, lay counsellors and other professionals using latest trends and best practices
  • Ability to assess clients' mental health problems and conduct counselling/trauma counselling for clients and service providers
  • Accurate record keeping and reporting
  • Assist with funding proposals and reporting
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of plans in the department and in communities
  • Participate in programme-related research and publications
  • Programme support within the team and other partners
  • Assist in preparing reports for funders and other stakeholders
  • Assist in design of effective strategies to understand violence
  • Develop training programmes that identify the needs of clients
  • Train and counsel clients and service providers
  • Conduct training workshops for educators, parents and other professionals using latest trends and best practices


Requirements:

  • Appropriate degree and registration as a social worker
  • Minimum of 5 years counselling and NGO/community based experience relevant to the responsibilities
  • Experience in the field of trauma counselling and trauma-related issues a recommendation
  • Good report writing skills are essential
  • Willingness to work after hours and be on call should the need arise
  • Driver's licence and computer literacy (Word/Excel/Power Point)
  • Fluency in two local languages


Salary: Negotiable depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include Medical Allowance and Provident Fund.
