South African History Archive: Student Assistant
The South African History Archive (SAHA) seeks to appoint a Student Assistant, based at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg
S/he will work with the Freedom of Information Programme (FOIP) on a web portal being developed to demonstrate the connection between the right to know, and broader development debates and transparency and accountability agendas.
This is a part-time contract position.
Responsibilities:
- Digitise documents released to SAHA in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), and prepare documents for physical and digital archiving
- Review released materials to develop summaries, news stories highlighting the topicality, significance of released materials;
Upload released materials to SAHA’s FOIP website, and create associated metadata, in line with SAHA processes and systems
Requirements:
- Postgraduate student in journalism, law or a related field
- Interest in learning about human rights advocacy
Starting date: Late November 2011 to February 2012 (excluding Christmas closure dates)
