Request for input: Review of women, girls, and gender equality in National Strategic Plans on HIV and AIDS

Application Deadline:
10 Sep 2010

To support the growing commitment to addressing women, girls, and gender equality in HIV policies and programs as marked by the UNAIDS launch of the Agenda for Accelerated Country Action for Women, Girls, Gender Equality and HIV, HEARD (Health Economics & HIV/AIDS Division, University of KwaZulu-Natal) and the ATHENA Network are collaborating to develop a Review of Women, Girls, and Gender Equality in National Strategic Plans on HIV and AIDS in Eastern and Southern Africa.

We seek to frame our Review around two key questions:

  1. How are women, girls, and gender equality currently addressed in National Strategic Plans on HIV and AIDS?
  2. What are specific and concrete recommendations for effectively integrating women, girls, and gender equality into these plans?

Job Description:

As we seek for this Review to reflect the important work undertaken to date by governments, UN partners, academic research centers, and civil society as well as to produce a practical framework for engendering National Strategic Plans, we write to invite your participation in this initiative.

Building from the broad body of work in the field to date, we aim to develop a practical framework that identifies key priority areas central to successfully addressing women, girls, and gender equality in National Strategic Plans on HIV and AIDS and includes a ‘minimum package’ of evidence-based interventions.

In order to do this, we seek your input around:

  1. What are key priority areas that National Strategic Plans on HIV and AIDS should include to successfully address women, girls, and gender equality?
  2. In order to address these key priority areas, what are evidence-based interventions that should feature in these National Strategic Plans?
  3. What resources or parallel processes do you know of that could inform this effort and that we should reference and/or link to?
  4. Which National Strategic Plan on HIV and AIDS do you think best serves as a model for other countries to follow in addressing women, girls, and gender equality?

Please share your input by 10 September 2010 by email to lead author of the Review, Tyler Crone (tyler [dot] crone [at] gmail [dot] com). We expect for the Review to be launched at the end of 2010 so please also let us know if you wish to be kept updated on the process and the outcomes.

Many thanks in advance for your consideration and contributions.
