Regional Coordinator

The Africa Fair Trade Network (AFN) seeks to appoint a Regional Coordinator to be based in Cape Town.
Job Description: 
The Africa Fair Trade Network (AFN) is a continental not for profit, non governmental organisation established by Fair Trade certified producer organisations in Africa with its headquarters in Moshi, Tanzania. AFN seeks to appoint a Regional Coordinator to be based in Cape Town.

Responsibilities

* Conducting needs assessments and identifying support programmes for Fairtrade producers in Southern Africa

* Develop programmes and activities according to the support needs of these producers

* Managing AFN programmes and activities in the Southern African region including country partnerships with other Fair Trade organisations

* Liaise with the AFN programme manager on AFN's activities

* Ensure efficient programme and accounting systems at the regional level

* Establish and maintain effective communication with Fair Trade producers  on AFN activities

* Managing the establishment of  Fair Trade country networks in Madagascar and Malawi and any other

* Represent SAFN and AFN whenever delegated to do so

* Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned by the SAFN board

Requirements

* Graduate level degree in Agricultural, Economics, Rural development or Development studies

* At least three years of relevant work experience with some management experience

* Excellent written and spoken English and some working knowledge of French or Portuguese would be an advantage

* Experience in the southern African region

* Must be able to communicate effectively in agricultural and international environment

* Able to handle varied, demanding and complex tasks

* Able to write programme and project proposals

* Willingness to travel in very basic conditions

* Excellent computer skills

* Ability to work independently

* Excellent planning skills

* Experience in budgeting and some financial management skills

* A flexible and enthusiastic approach to work with the ability to be part of a team

* An organised and methodical approach to work

* Able to juggle competing priorities to tight deadlines

* We are looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic about contributing towards this new venture

Desired:

* Understanding of Fair Trade

* Work experience in grassroots work with farmer organisations

* Office management experience

* Cross cultural experience

* Business development experience and /or development work experience

* Experience with one or more of the following:

   - certification schemes

   - standards and standard setting

 

SAFN offers the successful candidate a gross salary between R16,000 and R20,000 per month depending on experience.
