The Youth Development Network (YDN) seeks to appoint an individual with research experience to be their Programme Coordinator.  
Job Description: 

The Youth Development Network (YDN) is a national network of six youth development organisations operating in South Africa. These organisations are Establishment for Comprehensive Youth Development (ECYD), Joint Enrichment Project (JEP), Junior Achievement South Africa (JASA), Resource Action Group (RAG), School Leavers Opportunity Training (SLOT) and South African Association of Youth Clubs (SAAYC).

The YDN was established in 1998 to explore ways of increasing the impact of youth development programmes, sharing information and best practices amongst the member organisations, securing resources to support youth development programmes and advocating for the interests of young people. A priority for the YDN is to put youth and youth issues on the national agenda. The YDN member organisations run skills training, youth entrepreneurship and community development programmes to this effect.
 
The YDN seeks to appoint a Programme Coordinator to be based in Johannesburg.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop research and documentation strategies;
  • Conduct research at both national and SADC regional level;
  • Analyse and document findings;
  • Manage the budget for the Research & Documentation unit;
  • Monitor the impact and progress of programmes and projects within the Research & Documentation unit;
  • Devel analytical reports and position papers;
  • Develop materials and publications for relevant YDN programmes and projects;
  • Coordinate research and documentation programmes, related events, meetings, etc.
  • Develop and maintain efficient documentation and communication systems;
  • Coordinate and support member and partner organisations.

Requirements:

  • BA degree, preferably in the social sciences or development field;
  • Experience in conducting research, using various research methods and producing analytical reports;
  • Minimum of three years working experience in research within the NGO sector;
  • Understanding of youth development in the youth sector;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Experience in producing publications (managing the production process, including graphic designers and printers);
  • Web design experience  would be an advantage;
  • Ability to initiate action and work independently in a high pressure environment;
  • Willingness to travel nationally and regionally.
