The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Fellowship Programme (PFP) offers an opportunity for master'’ level students and graduates to be placed as a Social Worker – Lifeline, based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

 

Job Description: 

This is a 12-month paid fellowship.

S/he will work with OVC learners in schools and support the OVC project as a whole.

Responsibilities:

  • Counselling OVC in need of psychological care and support including rape cases
  • Assist OVC learners with child protection interventions including removal from home, shelter placements, legal documents
  • Family interventions such as family counselling and restorations
  • Home visit and assessments of learner OVC
  • Conduct educational workshops around child protection
  • Assist with court preparation for OVC with abuse case
  • Oversee the learner’s support group.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work
  • Master's degree or have completed 80% of your master's coursework
  • South African citizen or permanent residence
  • Starting date: November 2011
