President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief: Social Worker – Lifeline
The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Fellowship Programme (PFP) offers an opportunity for master'’ level students and graduates to be placed as a Social Worker – Lifeline, based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
This is a 12-month paid fellowship.
S/he will work with OVC learners in schools and support the OVC project as a whole.
Responsibilities:
- Counselling OVC in need of psychological care and support including rape cases
- Assist OVC learners with child protection interventions including removal from home, shelter placements, legal documents
- Family interventions such as family counselling and restorations
- Home visit and assessments of learner OVC
- Conduct educational workshops around child protection
- Assist with court preparation for OVC with abuse case
- Oversee the learner’s support group.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social work
- Master's degree or have completed 80% of your master's coursework
- South African citizen or permanent residence
- Starting date: November 2011
