Oxfam GB: Regional Director - Southern African Region
Oxfam GB is a leading international NGO working in over 80 countries to address poverty and suffering through supporting development, humanitarian and advocacy interventions.
Southern Africa is never far from the news. The region presents challenges because of chronic food insecurity, a growing frequency of natural distaters, governance challenges in some places, and high demand for services, especially in the context of HIV and AIDS. Women's rights reman a challenge too. But the region also offers huge opportunities - a growing role for South Africa in regional and global processes, especially through the G20: a region that has seen much political tranbility and growing democracy, and big oportunitied to effect economic recovery in Zimbabwe. In the context of these challenges and opportunities, Oxfam GB is proud to be working with and supporting others, in many of the significant changes taking place in this region.
With a long-term programme that extends beyond emergency relief efforts to ongoing development, lobbying and advocacy work, Oxfam is committed to making a positive difference to the lives of people across the region.
Oxfam GB seeks to appoint a Regional Director for the Southern African region, based in Pretoria.
This role represents a tremendous challenge (controlling a budget of some £19 million and coordinating the efforts of a geographically widespread 220-strong team) to the successful candidate. As part of the International Strategic Management Team, s/he will have a profound influence on both Oxfam GB and Oxfam International's global direction.
