Lerato House is a nonprofit, empowerment programme for young girls at risk (between 11-18 years old), including abused children, children affected by prostitution, and victims of human trafficking.
Lerato House seeks to appoint a Social Worker, based in Pretoria.
S/he will offer holistic, empowering individual case work and family reintegration services to the girls at Lerato House and in aftercare programme.
S/he will report to the Programme Coordinator.
This is a full-time contract position, with an initial six-month performance based contract in line with the organisational policy. Should both parties agree, an eighteen-month contract will signed.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure that intake and orientation procedures of clients are being followed through with diligence;
- Ensure that discipline and discharge of girls happens within the framework of the mission and vision of the organisation;
- Arrange regular meeting with parents/families with purpose of enabling them to take over responsibility;
- Organise after care work with families of former Lerato House girls;
- Participate in home-based care work in conjunction with the outreach team;
- Ensure that all girls are placed in appropriate schools or training programmes;
- Ensure that all girls are receiving necessary support that is, homework supervision, school uniform and all relevant materials;
- Develop and implement the plan together with the Shelter Manager;
- Join team for home visits;
- Write background reports;
- Arrange and ensure necessary steps are followed and role players are involved and well informed;
- Compile monthly statistics for the department and TLF reports;
- Create a proper filing system for all the girls;
- Attending and participating in all TLF events, meetings, celebrations and retreats.
- Attend relevant training according to agreed personal staff development plan;
- Coordinate and ensure that home visits/meetings with family take part whenever necessary;
- Assist in developing a care plan for each child;
- Ensure proper after care services are rendered to the child and family.
Requirements:
- Accredited social work certificate and registration with the South African Council of Social Work Professions;
- Minimum of three years experience working with children, pre-teens and adolescents at risk will be an advantage;
- Experience in statutory work;
- Valid driver‘s license.
- Verbal and written communication skills;
- Teamwork experience and cultural sensitivity are critical.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office;
- Written and verbal communication skills;
- Capacity in critical thinking and complex problem solving;
- Judgment skills;
- Ability to work under pressure.
Starting date: As soon as possible.
Salary: R9 500 per month - total cost to company.
