UNRISD is now accepting applications for a two to three-month internship position preferably to begin in December 2009 in the Gender and Development Programme (GAD). Eligible candidates must be currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD degree programme (as per UN Secretariat rules regarding interns) in economics, sociology, political science or a related field from an accredited university and have academic and professional experience in issues related to gender and social development. Written and spoken fluency in English is essential.
Responsibilities:
While at UNRISD, the intern will be asked to:
- Assist with the preparation of several manuscripts for publication, including programme papers and edited volumes on the political and social economy of care;
- assist in editing (language, copy-editing and substantive) research papers and preparing them for publication or web uploading;
- conduct library and Internet searches;
- assist in the drafting of new research proposals for the future UNRISD research agenda 2010-2015;
- produce a short draft paper, literature review, article or another similar output, on a subject related to the GAD research agenda or the intern’s academic interests and study programme.
The deadline for applications is 22 November 2009 (Midnight, Central European Time). The usual duration of the internship is two months, with the possibility of extension of up to two additional months. Applicants are asked to specify their dates of availability within the timeframe December 2009 to March 2010.
In accordance with the rules and regulations of the UN Internship Programme, this internship is not financially remunerated. UNRISD is not responsible for interns' travel expenses to and from Geneva, or for their medical insurance for the period of assignment.
