Institute for Justice and Reconciliation: Internship
The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) seeks to recruit an Intern for its Justice and Reconciliation in Africa Programme, based in Cape Town.
The intern will report to the Head of Programme.
This is an initial eight-month contract position of 20 hours per week with a three month probation period.
Responsibilities:
- Provide research support to Africa Programme staff
- Ongoing research support to the Head of Programme and project leaders, on political and socio-economic developments and on issues pertaining to justice and reconciliation in countries of IJR engagement
- Assist with regular updates of the programme’s country profiles in countries of IJR engagement
- Keep staff abreast of important developments related to IJR’s work in the field
- Assist to enhancing research for the Fellows Programme and Regional Consultation as required
- Provide logistical and research support to the IJR Justice and Reconciliation fellowship programme
- Logistical and event management support
- Assist in the design and management of the programme
- Provide logistical support for workshops and conferences
- Assist the AP Administrator and other team members with event (seminars/conferences/workshops) arrangements, when required
- Assist with writing up of workshop, conference and programme reports
- Provide input and support to the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) processes
- Assist with data-capturing and analysis
- Assist with development of M&E templates
- Any other duties at the discretion of the Head of the Africa Programme
- Liaise regularly with the Head of Programme for details
Requirements:
- Postgraduate degree (honours or masters) in political science, international relations, African studies, peace studies or a related discipline
- Interest in issues pertaining to social, political and economic justice, reconciliation and development in Africa
- Writing and analytical skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox
- Internet research skills
- Knowledge of searching academic databases
- Ability to take initiative, think creatively and work unsupervised for extended periods of time
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and deliver high quality outputs on time
- Ability to speak and write French will be a distinct advantage
Starting date: 9 January 2012
