Ilitha Labantu a National Non Governmental Organization dealing with violence against women and children is looking for a Financial Manager for its head office in Cape Town. This position is a contractual post. The successful applicant shall undergo a 3 to 6 months probationary period. During the probationary stage, performance evaluations shall be conducted after three months and after 6 months. Passing the two evaluations is a requirement for the contractual employment. Once applicant has passed the probationary period, and then the applicant shall have contractual status and shall enjoy full benefits as required and mandated by law.

Person Specification:

Language 

  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Xhosa. The ability to structure and convey concepts in writing is essential.

Education

All applicants should have the following qualifications 

  • Must be a South African Citizen 
  • A minimum of B Com (Management) Degree or an equivalent Accounting Degree 
  • Must have a minimum of two years work experience in Financial Administration, preferably in an NGO setting 
  • Must be computer literate, able to use MS Words, Excel, PowerPoint and accounting software 
  • Must be a team player, can work with minimal supervision, able to do multi-tasking and able to beat deadlines 
  • Must be willing to work for long and extra hours

Duties

In general, the work of the Financial Manager revolves on the following, but not limited to;

  1. Payroll
  2. SARS
  3. Staff Benefits
  4. Assisting Ilitha Labantu in the effective management and utilization of the donor funds
  5. Records all financial transaction involving donor funds (Pastel Accounting)
  6. produce and submit monthly reports on cash flow, balances and other financial statements
  7. conducts all financial, bank and legal transactions as authorized by Ilitha Labantu
  8. Coordinates with, and assists the Auditor during external audits
  9. Assists the administrative and technical assistant in maintaining a quarterly inventory of office equipment, supplies and other office materials
  10. Performs other tasks and functions as my be required by the organization

  • Sensitivity to the challenges and problems faced by women coming to the Shelter and ability to interact appropriately with them 
  • Commitment to the confidentiality of clients and organization 
  • Commitment to the principles of Ilitha Labantu, its aims and objectives as an organization and, take an interest in broadening her understanding of gender issues in South Africa 
  • Punctuality and regular attendances. 
  • Own transportation essential 
  • Willingness to travel
