UNIFEM seeks to employ the Donor Relations Specialist to be based in New York.
Job Description: 
Background:

The Outreach and Business Development Team (OBDT) is responsible for proactively driving the strategic positioning of UNIFEM so that the size, sources and predictability of its resources help the organisation achieve its strategic goals. A service center to UNIFEM HQ Sections and Field Offices, OBDT is organised into three functional clusters: Resource Mobilisation, Partnerships, Communications and Advocacy. Given the scope and interrelationships of OBDT's functional responsibilities, the work of OBDT is highly synergistic, involving constant and direct interaction and information-sharing among team members, to provide high quality advice, services and support to UNIFEM.

Under the supervision of the Resource Mobilisation Specialist-Lead, and in collaboration with OBDT colleagues, the Donor Relations Specialist will support reporting and documentation on UNIFEM's programmes, donor relations with Member States as assigned, and manage the communication with UNIFEM National Committees. The Donor Relations Specialist interacts regularly with and maintains a network with representatives from Member States, both at UN Permanent Missions and capitals. The incumbent also works closely with UNIFEM's geographic and thematic sections to generate materials on UNIFEM programmes so as to increase the financial support of Member States and UNIFEM National Committees and ensure their continued support.

The Donor Relations Specialist works closely with Partnership and Communications colleagues to ensure that implementation of resource mobilisation, communications and partnerships strategies, campaigns and initiatives involving Member States are aligned and mutually reinforcing. S/he advises and supports UNIFEM HQ Sections and Field Offices to implement partnership and resource mobilisation strategies, initiatives and campaigns with Member States, including positioning UNIFEM to expand non-core donor support.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Ensure that UNIFEM's innovative results and programmes are captured for greater visibility for the organisation while strengthening the knowledge base and gender mainstreaming practices.
* Develop partnerships with key Programme Managers and Specialists in UNIFEM HQ and SROs to support their capacity to improve information collection, documentation, and reporting.
* Implement resource mobilisation strategies as the donor focal point for countries as assigned on behalf of UNIFEM with those Member States to increase UNIFEM's regular and non-core resource base.
* Develop an annual plan for missions of the Executive Director to the above-mentioned Member States (and others as assigned) in collaboration with the Directorate and the Permanent Missions.
* Provide support to Executive Director for missions, meetings and other consultations with Member States, including preparation of notes, briefs and other materials; real-time donor intelligence captured, analysed and prepared, including interests, priorities, issues, changes in the political and aid environment; key messages developed; follow-up action taken.
* Act as the focal point within OBDT for specific UNIFEM country/sub-regional offices, and serve as project officer in HQ for the Brussels Liaison Office with related responsibilities.
* Ensure effective implementation of resource mobilisation strategies in terms of attracting Member States as partners on specific issues, campaigns and events, and influencing their resource allocation policies.
* Manage the communication with UNIFEM National Committees and liaise with UNIFEM HQ and SROs regarding resource mobilisation and advocacy support from National Committees.
* Advise UNIFEM National Committees regarding their advocacy efforts and in terms of their engagement with inter-governmental events like the Commission on the Status of Women, and ensure that their positions are consistent with those of UNIFEM's.
* Document promising practices, relevant tools and lessons learned from engagement with UNIFEM National Committees, including generating information materials for NCs to inform them about institutional updates, including the roll-out of UNIFEM business plans and resource mobilisation targets.
* Develop strong working relationships with OBDT colleagues, enhancing results of OBDT and its impact on UNIFEM performance;
* Provide timely contributions of knowledge, expertise and information to OBDT initiatives,

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

* Advanced degree in social sciences, public administration, business administration, international relations, communications, women's studies, or a related field.

Experience:

* 5 years of experience in working on gender equality issues and women's empowerment, including experience with civil society partnerships; experience in the UN system an asset.

Language Requirements:

* Fluency in English (written and oral). Knowledge of other languages an asset.
