Democracy Development Programme: Community Project Officer
The Democracy Development Programme (DDP) seeks to appoint a Community Project Officer - Local Governance and Public Participation, based in Durban.
S/he will ensure that the DDP is recognised as a leading NGO with regards to good governance and capacity building in the local governance sector.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate workshops with local governance stakeholders including councillors, traditional leaders, CBOs and other local structures
- Initiate and write proposals to potential funders to support DDP work
- Work with the entire DDP team on joint projects other than those necessarily associated with local government
- Present papers at conferences and workshops within the arena of local governance
- Design materials that would be relevant for the organisation as innovative resources for community building
- Support the CEO whenever necessary in the execution of his responsibilities where his/her expertise is called for
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social sciences, preferably in the developmental field
- Other qualifications relevant to the task at hand
- Fluency in both English and isiZulu
- Minimum of three years working experience in this sector
- Experience as a facilitator
- Working knowledge of the local government sphere including legislation, the IDP process, the ward committee system and traditional leadership
- Report writing skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Self-driven and organised in terms of deliverables
- Valid driver’s license
Salary: R15 000 - R19 000 per month, depending on experience.
