Association for Women's Rights in Development: Programme Coordinator

AWID seeks to appoint a Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRD) Programme Coordinator, based in its Mexico City office (preferred, but flexible).

 

Job Description: 

S/he will provide research and programmatic support to the activities of the WHRD. S/he will report to the WHRD Manager.

This is a full-time contract position.

Responsibilities:

  • Partnerships and alliance-building: Contribute to strengthening the WHRD International Coalition by actively participating in working groups on behalf of AWID and implement coalition activities (including research projects, joint advocacy efforts, and issuing action alerts)
  • Knowledge-building and research: Produce educational materials and timely analysis of WHRDs issues including writing short articles and developing materials as well as coordinating research projects for publications
  • Convene dialogues and strategic conversations: Contribute to sub-regional WHRD processes by implementing activities in the Meso-American initiative (coordinate Meso-American registry of violence against WHRDs, liaison between regional network and international stakeholders), document lessons to share with other regions, support outreach and planning for new sub-regional convenings
  • AWID Action: Coordinate AWID responses to urgent alerts regarding WHRDs, working with membership team to develop new tools for engaging constituency in solidarity actions

Requirements:

Minimum of four years experience in:

  • Facilitating collaborative processes with diverse partners
  • Conducting research including collecting, analysing, presenting data and report-writing
  • Coordinating advocacy initiatives or influence strategies
  • Working in a multi-cultural team
  • Working with nonprofit organisations based in the Global South and/or Central and Eastern Europe
  • Commitment to principles and values of feminism, anti-discrimination, and anti-racism
  • Writing and editing skills, good knowledge of research methodologies including statistical and quantitative methods
  • Facilitation and coordination skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
  • A 250 word essay on 'What would you consider are the key challenges to increasing security for women human rights defenders at risk?' (limit your essay to one standard 8.5 x 11 page with default margins and Times New Roman 12 point, double spaced; only the first page of any submission will be read)
