Assistant Director: Gender Researcher
Salary: 174 243 Per annum plus 37% in lieu of benefits
Requirements: Applicants must be in possession of an appropriate three-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification with two or more of the following subjects: Sociology, International Relations, Gender, International Trade and Investment, Political Sciences, History, Economics and Development Studies.
Competencies: ● Research skills ● Computer literacy ● Analytical and problem solving skills ● Excellent writing and verbal communication skills ● Client service focus and responsiveness ● Self-motivated team worker ● Interpersonal skills ● Planning and organising ● Knowledge of gender legislative country prescripts ● Experience in and/or knowledge of gender research methodology ● Knowledge of gender analysis tools and methodology.
Duties: ● Conduct engendered research for the Chief Directorate ● Work as a team member in support of South Africa's foreign policy and strategic objectives ● Conduct gender research on relevant issues and draft reports and briefing documents to facilitate the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of foreign policy and internal departmental research areas ● Compile research data and manage databases on assigned areas of policy research
● Analyse and evaluate gender trends and developments in foreign countries/international organisations ● Support South African missions abroad with appropriate gender-related information and/or research materials ● Provide support for departmental processes, such as Strategic Planning, Annual Reports, progress and performance reports, Portfolio Committee briefings and other such reports as may be required ● Assist with the routine and developing work of the Chief Directorate.
Note: This is a six months contract with possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will be interviewed on the 30 April 2009. The applicants selected for interviews will be responsible for their own travel costs to and from the Department.
