AFRICA UNITE FACILITATOR
The United Nations Development Fund for Women UNIFEM (part of UN Women) seeks a FACILITATOR for the AFRICA UNITE CAMPAIGN TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS
OBJECTIVES OF THE FACILITATION
Programmatic Workshop (31 August, 1 September)
- To ensure that UN Agencies participating at the workshop engage proactively, provide the necessary inputs for the development of the Africa UNiTE pro-doc, and commit resources to support the roll out of the Campaign
- To help identify synergies and potential areas of collaboration among UN Agencies, on the basis of their comparative advantage and mandates, and taking into account the initiatives by the Agencies in support of the Campaign
- To consolidate and harmonize the inputs provided to develop the programmatic framework of the Africa UNiTE campaign for Southern Africa, which will be based on two key documents:
- The Africa UNiTE Global Pro-doc
- The report of the regional consultation on the Africa UNiTE mainly the decisions adopted by governments and civil society as a result.
Media Workshop (2 September)
- To ensure that media experts participating from within and outside United Nations are familiar with the Africa UNiTE and its pro-doc for Southern Africa, and provide key inputs for the development of the media strategy for this
- To help participants to identify key partners (both individuals and organizations) for collaboration on the Africa UNiTE dissemination and profiling, and to implement the media strategy in Southern Africa
- To put together all the information provided by the participants for the development of a media strategy for the Africa UNiTE in Southern Africa that is based on the Africa UNiTE pro-doc and the conclusions of the Regional consultation.
OUTPUTS OF THE FACILITATION
- A successfully held programmatic workshop that ensures that views, comments and contributions from United Nations Agencies are included in the programmatic document (pro-doc) for the Africa UNiTE Campaign in Southern Africa
- A successfully held media workshop that ensures that views, comments and contributions from United Nations communications experts, external media experts, donors and key women’s organizations form the basis of the media strategy for the Africa UNiTE Campaign in Southern Africa
- A final report (in collaboration with the rapporteur) of the two workshops including:
- Specific recommendations raised by participants
- Complete list of participants at the two workshops and lists of the focal points for the programmatic and media components of the Campaign
- Final comments from UNIFEM
REQUIREMENTS OF THE CONSULTANCY
- The consultant should become fully familiar with the whole objective and outcomes of the Africa UNiTE Campaign, mainly its Framework for Action and global pro-doc with logframe (outcomes, outputs and indicators)
- To fully understand the mandates of the different UN Agencies participating at the workshop especially vis-à-vis ending violence against women
- To be fully cognizant of the conclusions and recommendations made at the regional consultation on the Africa UNiTE Campaign hosted on 11, 12 May especially of the action plans developed by country representatives and the messages suggested by countries
- To be informed on the main features of ‘campaigning” to end gender-based violence
PROFILE OF THE CONSULTANT
- Formal education equivalent to a degree or post-degree in Communication, Development, Social Sciences or fields related
- Proven experience working with strategic and programmatic documents and logframes
- Previous experience of work with the United Nations System, especially in a related field
- Experience working in the field of gender equality and/or knowledge of the women’s rights international framework especially in link with ending violence against women
- Proven experience as facilitator in regional workshops preferably with United Nations Agencies
- Proven strong communication, team building and inter-personal skills
- Fluent written and spoken English
DURATION OF THE CONSULTANCY and CONTRACT
The workshops will take place on the following dates:
Programmatic workshop: 31 August and 1 September 2010.
Media workshop: 2 September 2010
- The facilitator will be requested to work with the rapporteur on 1 September afternoon/evening to generate a document outlining the main components of the programmatic document, which is to be shared at the media workshop on 2 September
- The consultant will be requested to attend a preparatory meeting with UNIFEM on either Thursday 26 or Friday 27 August in UNIFEM premises in Sunninghill, Johannesburg.
A Services Special Agreement (SSA) will be signed for an initial period of 15 days with starting date of 30 August 2010.
