Abstract:
Teenage pregnancy has militated against the educational success of girls in South Africa. Statistics show that four out of ten girls become pregnant overall at least once before age 20. Education is important for these girls in order to break the poverty cycle in which most of them are trapped. Though the girls are allowed to return to school after becoming mothers, they face many challenges in trying to balance motherhood and the demands of schooling. The aim of this study was to find out how teen mothers cope with schooling, hence how much support is rendered to them. A qualitative research approach was used to understand the social phenomena of teenage mothers as learners. The result of the research showed that teen mothers in Cape Town receive insufficient support (physically and emotionally) and the consequence in that many quit or do not succeed with schooling.

Education
I remember the time when I was studying to obtain my organizational leadership degree and it was very difficult to be a mother and to have time to study. Thankfully I had a big support from my family and from a very good woman from the social services, without them it would be impossible to finish my studies. I hope that authorities will understand that they need to be more involved in this problem to help mothers find a solution.
South Africa
Hello, Your comment; Statistics show that four out of ten girls become pregnant overall at least once before age 20. That is an incredible rate of pregnancies, I really hope they can be taught and learn how to control that. Most countries don't have that many pregnancies when they are teenagers. I wonder what 2012 predictions will show next year for Cape Town, with poverty and the economy.

Scholarships
This is exactly why scholarships for single mothers are such an important issue which we need to keep pushing. These are badly needed to alleviate financial difficulties that hinder single mothers from continuing education and having a change at break free from the poverty cycle.
