Gender Links is hosting the Third Annual Gender Justice and Local Government Summit from 16-18 April 2012 under  the theme ‘365 Days of Collective Local Action to End Gender Violence’ in Johannesburg.

NAMIBIA: Gender Legislation Futile If Not Implemented

Namibian women's rights activists say existing gender legislation has failed to improve women's lives because it is not being implemented widely enough. Last August, Namibia signed the Southern African Development Community (SADC) gender protocol but politicians have yet to ratify it.

A summit of the 15-country Southern African Development Community (SADC), held in , concluded its fifth attempt to broker an agreement between Robert Mugabe's ruling Zanu-PF party and the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) by saying a deal had been hammered out.
