Young Women's Scholarship Dinner

Date of event:
4 August 2010

Education is the corner stone to the development of any country. Anex has initiated a scholarship programme for young women from the Central Karoo to study at a tertiary institution in the Western Cape. The dinner is the first initiative in support of this scholarship.

Even as we develop and progress as a democracy, women face discrimination and prejudice. Yet, women all over the country continue to work hard to make a difference -- to better their lives and the lives of others. Anex would like to assist more women to make a difference through empowering them with the opportunity to further themselves through education. The education of women has been highlighted by the United Nations as strategy through which to achieve all of the development goals. This event supports this strategy.

“Education is a companion which no future can depress, no crime can destroy, no enemy can alienate it and no nepotism can enslave” - Ropo Oguntimehin

Through the work of the youth programme in the Central Karoo, the organisation has realized that there are many young women who have matriculated and have ambitions to further their studies, however due to lack of funds, are unable to do so. Although the programme does make bursary information available to youth in the area, the organisation has decided to address this need by initiating a scholarship for young women specifically from this area to study at a tertiary institution by assisting them with the application fees, registration fees, as well as travel to the institution from their home.

The first event focused on raising funds for the Young Women's Scholarship will be a dinner to be held on the 4th of August at 18h20 at the Crusaders Memorial Sports Club in Greenpoint.

All proceeds from this dinner will go towards the scholarship for the 2011 period.

The ticket price of R300 includes a full dinner as well as entertainment for the evening.

We hope that you can assist us to give the gift of education to a young woman from the rural Western Cape
