The Western Cape Therapeutic Community Centre will host the South African Therapeutic Community Conference in Cape Town.

Topics at the conference will range from evidence based practices to offender programmes for those who are incarcerated in our prisons. A variety of both international and local speakers will share what are working and what are simply not working.

Conference objectives:

The World Association of Non Government Organisations (WANGO) is hosting the World Congress of NGOs in Philippines.

The conference is aimed at bringing leaders from NGOs from throughout the world join together at the World Congress of NGOs to discuss issues of pressing importance for the Third Sector. Known often as charities, nonprofits, and civil society organisations, NGOs assume a key role in tackling serious challenges confronting humanity and the world.

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) with the support of The World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is hosting the Rethinking African Economic Policy in Light of the Global Economic and Financial Crisis Conference from 6-8 December 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Background

The Durban University of Technology and Art for Humanity is organising a three-day international conference on Art and Social Justice or “the Art of Social Justice.” The 2010 Art and Social Justice Conference will address a range of issues and themes relating to the arts in promoting human rights and social justice in society.

The fourth symposium of the Electoral Institute of Southern Africa (EISA) is being held under the theme Preventing and Managing Violent Election Related Conflicts in Africa: Exploring Good Practices.

It will focus upon the problem of persistent, violent election-related conflicts in Africa with a view to understanding their causes, magnitude, and consequences for democratic governance. According to the organisers, the conference will explore ways in which these conflicts can be prevented, managed, and resolved and, in the process, share best practices from across the continent.

The SAHARA conference has a very specific focus, the social aspects of HIV – that is the social and cultural aspects of the epidemic (as opposed to the bio-medical ones). An important feature of the conference is its strong Africa focus.
