Feminists and women Activists all over the world are working immensely to liberate women and girls from all forms of violence and to achieve women and girls’ rights. Whenever a woman or girl is being violated, what comes to the minds of many Feminists and Activists is that the violation is done by men. Despite the efforts of NGOs working on women’s rights in Nigeria, violence against women is still on the increases in which some of our fellow women contribute to it.
It surprised to find out that some women just as men physically or emotionally or financially violate, discriminate or abuse other women and girls. Many girls in Nigeria commonly known as maids or nannies or house girls face a lot of violation in the hand of their madam. Many of them are battered beyond recognition, some are asked to sleep in the packing store or kitchen while some are subjected under hard labour.
Not until a case came to us, I did not believe that a woman can purposely refuse to pay her sales girl for good three months. I was shocked when we invited the woman in question for counseling to hear her asked us “Is it because I am running one-man business that you people are disturbing me for not have paid my sales girl for just three months? What have you people done to government that owned some of their workers for more than three months, yet they are richer than me?”
It is obvious that when some women are struggling to make women and girls to become financially independence and free from violence, some other women are there as anti-women’s voice increasing the delay in achieving women and girls’ rights. The question here is what strategy(ies) can be used to make all women and girls to speak with one voice? This is because the selfish sensitive men will soon start to use that to defend themselves.
Without a girl, no woman and without a woman, no world!
Keep on sharing!
