Every morning I go past this specific high profile suburb. At this specific traffic lights, are a blind middle aged man with his teenage daughter, I assume, holding his hands, and they are begging for money. I never give a cent to those who beg, but every morning I'm tempted to roll the window down and just ask this young woman "Why the hell aren't you at school?". Each time want to open that window, a little voice responds to me,"She has no choice".
I realise the father is blind. Then he must be receiving just below R1000 grant from the government. That is why I pay my taxes. She, coming from a poor family, I assume, must be in school fro free. Our government provides.
So why is she in the cold street every morning? She will never get the education, and therefore will become another beggar for life. I'm tired of keeping quiet now. Next time I drive past this young woman...I'm rolling that window down to speak to this abusive man.
