Tips to promote the new website of WN

in
Congratulations to all WN staff for this beautiful new website... I wish it will be seen a lot and updated often. Regarding promotion, I gathered some info that I would like to share with you... cause a website is like a video, there is no need for it to stay on the shelf, it has to be seen and promoted!!! Every successful website has target audience that makes them grow, some examples: - MySpace - target audience was English speaking U.S. teens/pre-teens - now going global and opening up to more general population. - Facebook - target audience was English speaking U.S. college kids - now going global and opening up to more general population. - LinkedIn - target audience is/was English speaking business professionals. First you have to figure out what target audience you are serving. No one want to network with the "General" public. People want to network with people with the same interests. Connect with people through their interests and you have found your target audience. Then to publicize the website, you should: a. find every social network I could and create a group for "your target audience", (even if there are already groups for that niche on that social network) b. find publications and websites that cater to your "target audience" and advertise, and/or participate in their forums, always leave a link to WN website. c. get "free" publicity from news organizations as the Website for "your target audience". Especially news organizations that concentrate on your target audience. They are often hungry for news to fill their publications. d. contact community leaders and social organizations that match your network - like try to get them to post the WN Website info in their newsletter, websites, bulletin boards, add links. e.trying to market on other big social networks like Myspace, Bebo, Facebook by creating a few groups or other method. All it will help in attracting traffic to the new website.

Tips!

Hi Typhanie!

thanks for this - especially since you were part of our new website!

Our wesite targets are not easy people - gender activists, women's orgnisations, human rights organisations with a focus on gender, decision makers influencing women's lives, academics and thinkers and of course South African women needing information.

They are busy, overwhelmed and often dont really want to learn anything new about technology!

So, we have our work cut our for us!

We have a Facebook group already :-) and, we must take your advice on looking at getting ourselves seen more on social networking spaces. I certainly agree with you on providing content for others, this is something we have to find time to do.

Thanks again Typh - keep the suggestions coming (I think they are helpful to all who ahve a website!)
