Women's Day at Sci- Bono

in
WOW! Here I am employed at Womens'Net for my 1st week and .... working.... on a Saturday: the 09th of August! Sci- Bono (www.sci-bono.co.za) is a math, science & technology discovery centre, reportedly the biggest of its kind in Africa. It held a "Women's Day" programme for school girls to interact with women experts from various science fields in math, biology, physical science & technology. So, Girls'Net (a subsidiary of Women'snet) was invited and held an exhibition there. Having attended a couple of sessions, it was inspiring to say the least: Listening to women express their expertise in sciences: Groundbreaking!! The presenters expressed how the best approach even to math, physical science & technology as a career is when a personal meaning or motivation is attached to it. For instance one presenter, CSIR's Senior Researcher Dr. Rebecca L. Maserumule explained that her topic of choice in research is driven by her concerns (e.g. lack of water supply in Limpopo), and hence uses her talents (math formulas in research) to finding solutions! It was refreshing to hear her (and one biology technologist) talk about math & biology jargons and then adding that personal flavour to their work! Some girls were eager to explore the areas of math, science & technology... and these fields sure NEEDS them! .... What a fresh start to resume my employment in Woments'Net: with some INSPIRATION! :)
