The end of one experience (FTX), the beginning of another (AWID)
And so it ends! One of the most amazing experience I have had this year.
The participants in the digital story track successfully completed their stories. They were all so beautiful even though they had little time to produce them.
We attended the last session toghether as participants and trainers of the FTX last night and we got a chance to see what was produced in the other tracks. Beautiful material was produced and it was really unbeliavable to see what the women produced regardless of the fact that they were using the tools for the first time (and learned all of this in three days).
I love technology! As i was writing this blog, a very tall lady from Kenya called Lea came up to me and explained to me how she got her laptop. It was donated to her through a website called Pulse Wire. she said she usually blogs on that website and she had mentioned that she needed a laptop for her work. Between January and now, she has received two. She will also be getting a video camera she had asked for one online tommorrow. Even more interesting is that she had choosen the video track because she knew she is getting one.
Women that attended the conference now see the use of technology as tool for social change. The FTX was really a necessary initiative because I think most women rights activists ignore or are not aware of the neccessity of ICTs in their work.
Tomorrow the AWID forum starts and it will end on the 17 November. There will be an FTX hub at the conference and some of the women that participated at the FTX will be content producers. The hub will have all sorts of information on ICTs, APC, Women'sNet and Take Back the Tech.
Thank you to all participants in the digital story track, you were great!
