Domestic Violence Act – Thumbs Up Or Thumbs Down?

Yesterday was the first day of the CSVR Domestic Violence Act Conference.  The conference is held at the Parktonian Hotel in Braamfontein and will continue for the next three days.

According to Adele Kirsten the director of CSVR, the purpose of the conference is to reflect on the past years of the implementation of the DVA by looking at what has worked, what did not and what the way forward is.

When thinking about the way forward, Kirsten said that we should keep in mind that the external climate differs completely from ten years ago.

My cell phone, My e-mail ... My Space!

Welcome to all the Girls'Netters out there to the 16 Days Campaign 2008!! Having a phone and access to the internet makes it both useful & fun! It gives me the opportunity to chat with friends, loved ones and anyone across the world! Being able to do this on my own terms makes me feel in control and independent.... And that I can be ME! Being able to sms or chat means to me that I can express my feelings in a variety of ways....pics. videos, emoticons ;) etc. what does it mean to you to have your own phone/ computer? Faith

On this day in 1995: "We both hurt, but your hurt wears fists"

On this day, 13 years ago, Susan Hamilton Sithole was stabbed to death by her husband. She was packing her bags at her flat, and had taken 2 friends and the police with her as a precaution. Her husband had been violent for some time, and she always thought she was strong enough to stop the violence - to make him see that his violence was destrong them both. When her friends went downstairs, he took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her over and over again. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the murder.

what's evrybody doing?

Hi everyone I'm just curious as to what plans evrybody has lined up for the 16 days of activism? Any comments on the 16 days welcom too.

Pens and Presentations Down

A session that was supposed to be about experiences of hate crimes, and remembering people we have lost due to homophobia, ended up into an emotional session. The session started well with presentations from the panels. Chan from Zambia, who identifies as a transgendered man said, he feels and has seen that there is no unity within the feminist movement. When issues affecting women are addressed, it is not very often you hear trans people mentioned.

Information Technology, my God

I love Math and Science, I did well at school even though priority was mostly given to boys, I always competed with them. Funny, I always was on the same league as they were. I loved the fixing, making and analysing problems, I did well.

Untitled - But concerns AWID

The AWID experience has really given me a lot to think about but I am having difficulty documenting this thinking. I don't know where to start!

Day two of the AWID Forum

What a match, what an effort...I call it a radical and dynamic movement. I am in love with the spirit of the movement...

I am really tired, just came back from the One in Nine campaign match, we went through town from the CT International Conversion center to the Provincial Administrator to deliver a memorandum to the premier of the Western Cape, Lynn Brown.
