Interest in learning from Women'sNet and learning about self-empowerment stories

Hello, I'm not completely sure how blogs work on this site but if it's anything like other blogs I've had then it's my personal thoughts as well as not so personal thoughts but is also somewhat interactive. I suppose I'll start out by saying, I'm not South African. I'm an American College (University) student and I'm writing a paper on Women's groups promoting empowerment in South Africa. I'm really interested in the topic of being empowered as a woman and my personal experience is that I myself AM empowered. I am educated, conscious, healthy, financially stable, I'm not living in a town destroyed by violence or oppression. I'm from Washington, DC and if there's one thing that I've learned from that is how incredibly lucky I am and how I should help others who aren't so fortunate. Now that I've given a bit of background on myself, I'm really just interested in reading what women from South Africa have to say about becoming empowered, how they've gone about this and really anything else they would like to say! If you are from South Africa and you'd like to share your experience with me, I'd LOVE to hear about it :) I'm pretty sure from everything I've learned that there's a very good chance that you (south African women) have had to overcome more hurdles in achieving this than I have and I'd be honored in hearing your stories! So please let me know what you have to say :) Thanks, Rachel

Women Empowerment through Media

Thank you for sharing this blog. I love reading blogs about women empowerment. It’s great to know that the media can help in promoting women’s rights on issues concerning them. It can also tackle issues; therefore, women’s opinions and views about these concerns are being heard and shared.  website run by women, for women – showcasing women on the web and women's issues.

Women in Africa

Oh Well Rachel, it has been long since you had queries. No answers. No 1 responds. You see, most African women do not have access to the internet, no computers, and some cant read. Those other groups that are for women empowerments, are too busy saving lives and wiping some tears out there. Don't give up Rachel. Send direct emails to intern [at] womensnet [dot] org [dot] za and info [at] few [dot] org [dot] za. I hope these will help.
