Time Flies when you are in a coma

Feeling very nervous - I have registered for a Coma Care Workshop being run at Groote Schuur Hospital on this Saturday & Sunday. I was prompted to find out how to communicate with "non communicative" persons when my friend Enbe Badenhorst, my favourite Fine Music Radio announcer was struck down with Guillane-Barre Syndrome, and was paralysed from the neck down, and placed on a ventilator to keep him alive. Last Sunday when I went to see him, he was off the ventilator, but still could not speak. I have created a support group for him on Facebook (yea - at my age !!). love from Joy & my 4 kitties

coma care

Hi Joy,

Coma care are an amazing resource. My mom was in a coma last year for 4 months before she passed away - they really helped my family cope and find ways of connecting with her, and each other. let us know how the workshop went!

Enbe Badenhorst

Hello Joy Me and an old friend of Enbe went to see him on Sunday 1 March 2009. He is in a lot of pain but is quite aware of people around him. It is difficult for him to communicate and we could not stay long. I however think he is very lonely but fortunately he is able to listen to FMR all day long. Terrible to see so much suffering and being unable to do anything about it! Regards AC

Social networks have no age restrictions!

Hi Joy! You are one smart old lady and I am not suprised you are using social networks.  I hope your friend gets well.
