Fun, Inspiring, Mind Blowing

What an Inspiring event it is. The 11th AWID Forum, the event brought a lot of women together from all around the world. These women identify as feminist, I do too now with confidence.

The end of one experience (FTX), the beginning of another (AWID)

And so it ends!  One of the most amazing experience I have had this year.

The participants in the digital story track successfully completed their stories.  They were all so beautiful even though they had little time to produce them.

Building Movements Using Technology At The Feminist Tech Exchange

Today is the second of the Feminist Tech Exchange taking place in Cape Town at Monkey Valley.  Different amazing women from all over the world have all gathered here to learn more about the linkage between information communication technologies and women's rights.

Rape Cases through the Justice System Process

Heard about the launch of a GROUND_ BREAKING study on rape cases? The name of the study is "Tracking Justice: The Attrition of Rape Cases through the Criminal Justice System in Gauteng". The study was a collaboration between Tshwaranang, MRC and the CSVR. It offers some possibilities to how and why rape cases in Gauteng are funneled down through the Criminal Justice System: from when they are reported, through to investigation, down to the courts and finally conviction.

Healing power of story telling

What can I say…except that life goes on and we all do what we are required to do. I am not much of a blogger but there are times when words are the things that heal and gives one time to reflect on things. The digital story workshop was one of those things that created healing, for me and some others. I came away with a feeling of being healed and ready to move on. This is what I say that words and pictures can and do heal. If you are hurting….write it down do you own story around that hurt, put pictures to the words and add music if you wish.

Time Flies when you are in a coma

Feeling very nervous - I have registered for a Coma Care Workshop being run at Groote Schuur Hospital on this Saturday & Sunday. I was prompted to find out how to communicate with "non communicative" persons when my friend Enbe Badenhorst, my favourite Fine Music Radio announcer was struck down with Guillane-Barre Syndrome, and was paralysed from the neck down, and placed on a ventilator to keep him alive. Last Sunday when I went to see him, he was off the ventilator, but still could not speak. I have created a support group for him on Facebook (yea - at my age !!).

Interest in learning from Women'sNet and learning about self-empowerment stories

Hello, I'm not completely sure how blogs work on this site but if it's anything like other blogs I've had then it's my personal thoughts as well as not so personal thoughts but is also somewhat interactive. I suppose I'll start out by saying, I'm not South African. I'm an American College (University) student and I'm writing a paper on Women's groups promoting empowerment in South Africa. I'm really interested in the topic of being empowered as a woman and my personal experience is that I myself AM empowered.

Digital Story Telling Workshop

Joy - What on earth are you doing writing a blog ? Are you crazy in addition to all the other things that you are ? At your age, you should know better !! Well, yes, actually I am crazy, and anyway, blogs look a little bit like dragons, and I ended up my digital story by saying that I go looking for dragons to slay now, so out comes my digital pen that is mightier than the virtual sword, and I jump into the deep end !
