Women'sNet is a vibrant and innovative networking support programme designed to enable South African women to use the Internet to find the people, issues, resources and tools needed for women's social action.

Women'sNet, a project of SANGONeT and the Commission on Gender Equality, aims to empower South African women to use information and communications technologies (ICTs) towards advancing women's equality by:

  • making technology accessible to women, particularly those who have been historically disadvantaged;
  • providing responsive gender-sensitive training and support linking projects, people, tools and resources; and by
  • creating a platform for women's voices and issues facilitating the dissemination of information in formats accessible to women who are not directly linked to the Internet.

In order to achieve these aims Women'sNet

  • Develops materials that are of interest to women in communities and NGO's;
  • Disseminates information on topics of local and national interest, in accessible formats through, among other things, it's website and radio exchange;
  • Assists women and NGO's to gain access to, and network with, national and international organisations, lobbying groups and funders;
  • Provides training on technical skills, networking skills, lobbying and advocacy through the use of radio, Internet and print media
  • Advocates for access to ICT's for women, lobbies for ICT's that serve the needs of women, promotes the empowerment of women in the ICT sector and supports freedom of expression on the www.
